Cannabis has unquestionably a scientific basis, and in recent years, its language and terms are becoming much more technical. Trichomes are one of the most used keywords in the cannabis industry and if you enjoy cannabis, you’ve wondered at some point what those crystals are on the leaves and buds of the plant and why they are so important.

So, let’s learn more details about this crucial part of the plant.

Trichomes Characteristics

The hundreds of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids that give our favorite cannabis strains their potency, distinctiveness, and effectiveness are actually produced by trichomes.

Trichomes are frequently referred to as the cellular metabolite factory of cannabinoid and terpene production. These glandular appendages are found on flowers, bracts, and leaves of cannabis flowers.

Cannabis trichomes resemble mushrooms in shape and have bulbous, spherical heads supported by a stalk. Approximately 50–100 microns broad (1 mm = 1000 microns), they are also quite small.

Why are Trichomes Considered a Defense Mechanism?

Trichomes in cannabis act as a defense mechanism to shield the plant from pathogens, insects, and environmental stressors. Non-glandular trichomes serve as surface structures that shield plant organs from a variety of biotic and abiotic stressors.

In nature, female cannabis plants frequently become more susceptible to insects, animals, and non-living environmental factors including potentially harmful UV radiation.

Trichomes act as a defense mechanism for plants because they prevent animals from eating the blossoms because of their powerful odors but they also protect their plants from harmful winds and even some types of fungal development.

Trichomes on Cannabis

Cannabinoids synthesize in the trichome just as the plant enters its flowering stage. Trichomes form along the outer surface of cannabis plants when they start to produce flowers and metabolize the precursors for a wide range of cannabinoids. These include THCA and CBDA.

Trichomes can consist of scales, papillae, glandular hairs, and hairs. They develop on the appendages of several plants, including cannabis, as well as on lichens and algae.

Types of Trichomes on Cannabis

Trichomes are divided into two categories: glandular and non-glandula. But, only the glandular ones produce cannabinoids. Trichomes come in a variety of sizes and shape. These glandular trichomes are separated into three categories that are the most frequently seen on cannabis plants.

  • Bulbous Trichomes: This is the smallest kind of trichomes that can’t be seen without a microscope. Despite covering the whole surface of the plant, bulbous trichomes are hard to see.
  • Capitate-sessile Trichomes: These are the “medium-sized” trichomes and cover the largest area on the cannabis plant. This includes the leaves and stems, measuring between 25 and 100 micrometers. These trichomes, which are primarily found on the underside of sugar and fan leaves, have mushroom-like bulbous forms. They have secretory cells at the base that produce terpenes and cannabinoids.
  • Capitate-stalked Trichomes: Capitate-stalked trichomes are the largest of the three categories and can measure from 50 to 500 micrometers, making them the easiest to spot with the naked eye. They resemble little sticky mushrooms with a bulb at their heads. These trichomes are responsible for cannabinoid and terpene synthesis and produce most of the resin and THC.

Cannabis trichomes have crucial functions in providing hundreds of known medicinally and therapeutically advantageous compound. These are unique to cannabis in addition to protecting the plant from external factors. However, always keep in mind that if a strain has a lot of trichomes this isn’t a good sign of the plant’s cannabinoid content. So, do your research before buying a new strain from the dispensary!

Random drug tests at work or a drug test before the hiring process have long been a stressful matter for marijuana users. However, if you regularly smoke weed, there are many things you can do to pass your drug test, such as a detox plan to rid your body of THC.

In general, no one should be forced to take a drug test, especially for marijuana, but employers have the right to use drug tests and they’re also supported by the government. The rules can appear even more complex because drugs like marijuana are permitted in some states but are nonetheless prohibited by federal law.

So, let’s see the types of drug tests, why employers use drug tests, and how you can pass them.

Types of Drug Tests

Drug tests check for signs of illegal or prescription drugs in samples of urine, blood, hair, saliva, or sweat. In general, urine analysis is the most popular method of drug testing. Note that a drug test can detect THC, CBD, tinctures, oils, and even edibles.

Employers can send you to submit your urine sample to third-party certified labs that use a two-step process for drug screening. The employer can also give you a test strip and ask you to go to the bathroom and do the test at work in order to detect drugs that are quickly metabolized. Lastly, even though it’s less often, some companies conduct drug tests on employees using saliva, blood, and hair samples.

Why Employers use Drug Tests

You may wonder, why should the company care for what you do in your own time. While smoking a joint or two has never harmed anyone, employers have been using drug tests to avoid problems in the working environment and guarantee a drug-free workplace.

Studies have revealed that substance users are more prone to arrive late at work, change jobs frequently, lack productivity, be involved in a workplace accident, or harm others. As a result, in order to improve long-term workplace conditions and reduce the possibility of working mishaps, drug-free workplaces are advantageous for both employers and employees.

How Long Does Marijuana Stay in the Body?

Keep in mind that everyone’s body reacts differently to marijuana use. The most important variables are when you last consumed, how frequently, potency, body fat, weight, and metabolism.

Weed can remain in your blood and urine for 90 days after use if you consume it often. Furthermore, marijuana can be found in urine tests 1–5 days after occasional use, 1–3 weeks after regular use, and 4-6 weeks after numerous daily uses. Note that most people can get clean in 30 to 45 days.

In general, weed can leave your system in as little as two days, if you only smoked once over the weekend, however it usually takes up to ten days. Other drugs can remain in your system for a few days or, in rare circumstances, up to a month.

How to Pass a Drug Test

People typically cheat a drug test in one of three ways: by drinking a commercially available product to flush out drugs, by replacing their urine with synthetic urine or drug-free urine, or by adding an adulterant in vitro to the urine specimen after it has been collected.

However, the three above-mentioned ways to cheat a drug test involve risks and can also be dangerous to your health. The safest way to pass a drug test is to detox naturally by increasing your fluid intake and urine output to dilute the drug concentration in the sample below the threshold of detection. Additionally, you should drink lots of water and B-complex multivitamins several days prior to the test but don’t overdo it the day of the test because if your urine is over-diluted this would indicate you did it on purpose.

Always keep in mind that cleansing your body and organism by following a detoxification program, exercising, abstaining from use, and drinking lots of fluid is the best way to pass the test. Your body’s detoxification process will do the trick over time and you will also offer your organism several health benefits that will relieve both your body and your mind.

How to Get Rid of the Smell of Marijuana

For weed smokers, the scent of a strain is one of the plant’s attractive characteristics but for others, the smell of marijuana in your house or car may create problems with people not approving its use.

Cannabis users may still have a variety of reasons for wanting to mask the scent of weed after smoking.

So, in case you’re a regular or occasional smoker, you undoubtedly want to know how to get rid of the weed smell from your home and clothes. So, let’s see what you can do about it!

Marijuana Scent and Terpenes

Firstly, there are countless cannabis strains and due to the different cannabinoid and terpene ratios in each plant, each one has different effects and advantages. Cannabis is a terpene powerhouse because it is highly concentrated in terpenes, the aromatic substances produced by plants.

When you smoke marijuana, you quickly release all of those potent fragrant compounds as well as the sooty odor of burnt weed into the air. As a result, terpenes and burning odors persist in the air and soak into things like clothing, hair, and fabrics.

In other words, the smell of weed is necessary and inevitable when smoking but there are things you can do to minimize it in your environment.

Use Incense

If you don’t want it to be too obvious that you’re attempting to mask the smell of marijuana, consider a natural aroma like Nag Champa or Dragon’s Blood. Before smoking, light some incense to keep the marijuana smell from spreading into the room. Moreover, in case there is still weed smoke in the air, incense smoke may serve as a disguise!

Airing and Cleaning the Room

If smoke is confined to only one room, there is nowhere for it to escape until the windows are opened. For as long as you can, leave your windows open to let fresh air in and let the smoke out.

Therefore, if you face this problem, the easiest technique to get rid of the cannabis smell is to thoroughly clean the affected areas or the entire room if you have some extra time. Baking soda and vinegar work well together to deep clean, and you may add natural odor deodorizers to those mixtures as needed.

Clean Fabrics & Surfaces

Next up, cannabis odor will linger in fabrics like tablecloths, bedsheets, pillows, and curtains. In order to remove it once and for all, you must launder thoroughly all fabrics as well as the carpets and add some white vinegar in your wash cycle (this applies also for clothing).

Baking soda is another option that works by absorbing and trapping odors. It has the advantage of being versatile; for added freshness, you can even sprinkle it on your carpet before vacuuming.

Essential Oils & Neutralizing Sprays

A popular oil that isn’t particularly potent or overbearing but yet manages to mask the scent of marijuana is Patchouli Oil. Lemongrass, lavender, and peppermint are additional excellent options.

Additionally, An enzyme-based odor remover eliminates strong odors from the source, it’s safe to be used close to animals, and work better than air fresheners. Spray odor remover on all of the room’s fabric surfaces and don’t forget to fluff the curtains and pillows.

Create a Homemade Sploof

A sploof is a smoke filter (or DIY air filter) that you can use to blow into in order to hide the smell of weed smoke. When you exhale the smoke, a sploof filters it using common household items. You can quickly make one if you have a dryer sheet, a rubber band, a washcloth, a paper towel, or toilet paper on hand.

Get Rid of the Smell from your Body and Hair

It’s likely that you don’t want your breath, hair, or body to smell like marijuana if you want to remove smells from your home or car. Fortunately, you can find many items that can be used to cover up odors.

So, your best bet for fresh breath is to brush your teeth or use strong chewing gum, preferably anything minty. You should keep in mind that when choosing body spray, cologne, or perfume for your body you shouldn’t add too much as it can be overwhelming and possibly raise suspicions.

Use a Dehumidifier or Products with Less Smoke

Most airborne scents in a room are taken away surprisingly rapidly by a dehumidifier with an air filter. It is unquestionably worth the money if you frequently smoke marijuana inside.

Alternatively, smoking weed using vape pens or vaporizers will significantly reduce odors in comparison with smoking. You can also consume edible products that don’t produce odors at all. Consider these solutions as they will also limit the need to fill the room with air fresheners, oils, and candles.

You’re not alone if you find it challenging to roll a decent joint. Even many long-term tokers who prefer bongs and pipes never seem to get the hang of rolling. Most cannabis social circles designate the most skilled roller in the group to handle the job.

These days, cannabis fans can buy easy-to-use rolling cones and pre-rolls. However, relying upon these tools can get pricey and inhibit your ability to customize your joint. Fortunately, there’s hope for folks who can’t seem to master hand-rolling technique: an inexpensive and convenient little device called a joint roller.

How to Use a Joint Roller

Even if you’re a fairly experienced hand roller, a joint roller can be convenient when you’re in a hurry or when you need to roll several joints at once. RAW, Zig-Zag, and Juicy Jay’s make economical and high-quality joint rollers. Let’s get you started with the basic procedure for using a joint roller:

  1. Grind 1-2 grams of cannabis onto a rolling tray.
  2. Open the joint roller and use your finger to create a cigarette-sized channel.
  3. Add a filter, if desired.
  4. Fill the rest of the channel with the ground buds.
  5. Place your thumbs near the end of each side of the joint roller and use them to bring the two rollers together.
  6. Give the device a couple of rolls to pack the cannabis and let any excess fall away.
  7. Insert the paper into the joint roller with the glue at the top edge facing you.
  8. Give the roller another quarter turn until only the glued portion remains visible.
  9. Wet the glue and give the joint roller another couple of turns.
  10.  Open the roller and take out your joint.

Pro Tips For Rolling A Joint

Now that you understand the basic steps for using a joint roller, you can improve your technique with some tips from the pros:

  • Grind your weed with a high-quality metal grinder armed with plenty of teeth.
  • Be especially careful to remove any seeds. Seeds will ruin the flavor of your toke and can pop out at you unexpectedly.
  • Don’t pack too much bud into the roller. Joints need enough space for air, or they won’t burn well.
  • Let the joint dry for a moment before lighting it. Wet joints may fall apart or be impossible to light.
  • Use a moist cotton swab to wet the glue if you’re rolling joints for someone else and don’t want to share germs.
  • Choose high-quality rolling papers, and make sure they’re the correct size. Place the paper evenly into the joint roller to avoid rolling a crooked joint.
  • Buy standard-sized filters or get your filters from the same company that manufactured your joint roller. Some filters are too skinny for joint rollers and will limit the size of your joints.
  • Practice a few times until you master your joint roller technique. You can always take the joint apart and try again. You’ll be able to reuse the weed and the filter, but you’ll have to throw away the paper.

Finding New Buyers For Legal Cannabis Buds

Like any other industry, the cannabis market needs long-term growth to remain profitable. Since legal dispensaries are such a new phenomenon, it has been relatively easy to attract customers into this exciting market. However, as the cannabis industry becomes more commonplace, it will need to think of creative ways to attract first-time customers.

There are some early signs that “canna-curious” customers have emerged in legal states. However, to sustain a steady flow of new cannabis consumers, weed companies may have to re-evaluate their marketing and research strategies.

New Cannabis Customers Seem To Be Entering The MJ Market

One factor that’s working in cannabis businesses’ favor is that most North American residents are receptive to weed laws. The Pew Research Center shows that over 90 percent of Americans would be OK with legal recreational or medical marijuana. Currently, over half of US states have medical marijuana programs, and Canada became the first Western nation to approve recreational weed.

Interestingly, even though most Americans seem to be OK with legalizing pot, only about 18 percent of US residents use this drug. There are, however, a few indications that cannabis legality will attract new customers.

For instance, recent reports suggest more older citizens are likely to use cannabis as laws relax. Recent data shows a 10 percent increase in marijuana use in the 50 – 64 age range and a 15.3 percent jump from those over 64 between 2002 – 2014. Many senior patients are curious about using cannabis for conditions like arthritis and anxiety rather than OTC pills or pain prescriptions.

There are also surveys that show new customers are most interested in trying cannabis for overall wellness. Rather than “getting high,” new cannabis consumers want to try this herb’s therapeutic potential. Indeed, many newcomers to the cannabis space only focus on non-intoxicating CBD products to enjoy benefits like stress relief without THC’s psychoactivity.

cannabis insights

How Will Dispensaries Continue To Attract New Cannabis Customers?

Currently, cannabis and hemp companies can easily attract many new customers who are simply interested in sampling a newly legal product. However, successful weed businesses must carefully consider their branding and marketing strategies in the following years.

As mentioned above, many new cannabis customers aren’t just interested in enjoying a high-potency dab session. People entering the cannabis space for the first time seem interested in using weed for conditions like anxiety, depression, or chronic pain. In many of these cases, people don’t want the ultra-high-THC strains ubiquitous in the black market.

To continuously attract new business, cannabis growers and manufacturers must be open to innovation and experimentation. The more variety companies could offer new cannabis customers, the greater likelihood they will continue to generate a healthy revenue as the cannabis market matures.

Of course, it will be crucial for the cannabis industry to formulate high-quality & nationally-accepted testing procedures. Consumers want to know the cannabis they’re ordering has gone through rigorous screenings to ensure there are no contaminants. If the US government and the FDA lay out laws for testing legal cannabis, it will help drive more traffic to this emerging market.

Where Is Weed Legal In The US? /where-is-weed-legal-in-the-us/ Wed, 13 Jul 2022 16:05:01 +0000 https://straincares.flywheelsites.com/?p=135514 The post Where Is Weed Legal In The US? appeared first on Strain Cannabis Dispensary.

The legal situation for cannabis in the US is crazy confusing. On the one hand, the US government says marijuana has zero therapeutic value. However, the FDA has approved many THC and CBD-containing drugs. In some states, you could find dispensaries everywhere, but neighboring territories may not allow hemp flower shops.

While some DC lawmakers have introduced cannabis reforms, it doesn’t appear the federal government will move to address this issue anytime soon. Until the US government introduces a legal cannabis policy, the answer to the question “Where is weed legal?” is “It depends!” Customers always have to check their local legislature’s policies for the most up-to-date guidance on legal weed.

How Can Americans Figure Out Where Weed Is Legal?

If you want to get super technical, weed remains illegal in the USA. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has yet to change its stance on THC-containing products. Even if you’re in a state with relaxed cannabis possession laws, the federal government considers cannabis a “Schedule I” drug.

However, as public opinion sways in pot’s favor, more states have introduced policies that oppose the federal mandate against marijuana. Also, federal prosecutors aren’t spending as much time and resources targeting petty cannabis offenses, especially in states that have “gone green.”

Just remember that weed remains a federally illegal substance. Even if your state has special cannabis laws, you must be aware the federal government could take legal action against you.

So, how could Americans determine if their state has legal weed policies? It’s not too challenging to Google your hometown’s stance on recreational and medical cannabis. Reputable organizations like the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) keep detailed tabs on the latest changes to these policies.

Please be sure you carefully read through the age restrictions and possession limits associated with your state. It’s also crucial that customers never bring THC cannabis products across state lines. Until DC creates a national standard for legal recreational cannabis, bringing weed outside of one state could be viewed as “drug trafficking.”

legal cannabis

Don’t Forget The Numerous “Nug Nuances” When Searching “Where Is Weed Legal?”

Even if your state has a reputation for legal weed, that doesn’t mean there are zero restrictions on reefer. As hinted above, each state has unique cannabis purchasing and possession limits. Also, many “weed-friendly” territories don’t allow at-home cannabis cultivation.

Customers must remember that federal zones like National Parks hold firm to the DEA’s standard. So, even though California is pot-friendly, territories like Yosemite and Death Valley treat cannabis as an illegal substance. Please also note that private businesses and public parks in cannabis-friendly states aren’t accepting of marijuana.

FYI: All of the above laws apply to cannabis products with over 0.3 percent delta-9 THC. In 2018, the federal government OKed hemp products like CBD oils, tinctures, and topicals. Although some states still have issues with select hemp products, technically any hemp-derived substance with ≤ 0.3 percent delta-9 THC is OK per the federal law.

Selling cannabis is no longer a shady side-hustle. As long as you live in a state where weed is legal, you could make some serious “green” by getting involved with the weed industry. There are already dozens of fantastic stories of former hobbyists who are now making a comfortable living thanks to marijuana.

Since pot has become such a hot product in legal markets, many people have become curious about how lucrative it is to get involved with the weed sector. Do the rates for jobs in the weed industry warrant the risk of handling a federally-illegal drug?

Who’s Making The Most Green? — A Look At The Highest Paying Jobs In The Weed Industry

Because the cannabis market is new and fragmented, it’s challenging to get firm estimates of what employees across North America earn. Every state will have slightly different rates depending on local prices and cannabis-specific taxation policies. However, according to a few recent surveys, it’s clear where most of the money is flowing in this industry.

Understandably, CEOs of successful cannabis businesses stand to make the most in the marijuana market. Most estimates suggest the median annual salary for a cannabis CEO is in the mid-$300,000 range. Slightly below that is a cannabis COO with a yearly salary of $100,000 less than the CEO.

Many top-tier positions in segments like cultivation, retail, and extraction could easily earn annual salaries of between $100,000 – $200,000. For instance, Fortune magazine says master cultivators, extraction directors, and managers for lab testing facilities all make yearly salaries in the $130,000 range.

Even on the “low-end” of the spectrum, new employees can make a decent living tending to cannabis while working their way up in the industry. For instance, sales representatives for marijuana companies usually bring in about $62,000 per year. Even weed delivery drivers and assistant growers could make between $30,000 to $50,000 per year.

cannabis jobs

How Could People Break Into The Weed Business?

If people love pot, it makes sense to at least consider a cannabis-focused career. As mentioned above, entry-level jobs at dispensaries or grow facilities can pay handsomely. Plus, since the cannabis market is so new, dedicated employees get the opportunity to work their way up in an expanding industry.

While breaking into the cannabis biz is highly desirable, “weed experience” isn’t something you’re told to highlight on a standard resumé. People who have plenty of experience growing and consuming cannabis often say they don’t know how to start marketing themselves in this business.

Thankfully, as the marijuana market expands, it’s getting easier to find legitimate trade shows, job fairs, and applications for cannabis-related companies. There are even some colleges that offer courses in various weed-related fields.

People who have few connections in the current cannabis market should look on sites like LinkedIn or Indeed for opportunities in cannabis categories. If there are local dispensaries, grow facilities, or medical marijuana sites in your area, you should ask around to see if they have job availability.

If you’re serious about getting involved with weed, you should find opportunities and events to help you get into this market. It may take some persistence, but newcomers can start a fantastic career dealing with weed flowers.

When it comes to cannabis edibles, there’s nothing quite as iconic as the infused brownie. Even most non-cannabis users have heard of or come across “magic” brownies at least once. Depending on the strain used in baking, these chocolatey, decadent squares produce a high and effective relief from various ailments. While you could whip up a box mix with some eggs and cannabis-infused butter or oil, why not go the extra mile and create a homemade weed brownie recipe that will really satisfy those taste buds? Here are a few to try.

Easy Cannabis Brownies

These are great if you want that “classic” brownie taste and texture.

What you need:

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
½ cup cannabis coconut oil or cannabutter
1 cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat your oven to 350° Fahrenheit and grease an 8 by 8 metal baking pan. Next, sift your dry ingredients in a large bowl and cream your cannabutter (or coconut oil) and sugar. Add the eggs next, followed by the vanilla. Finally, add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix on low to incorporate everything.

Pour the batter into the baking dish and lightly tap it to ensure everything’s even. If you want, add some crushed walnuts or chocolate chips on top. Place the pan into the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Test the brownies with a toothpick to ensure doneness. Cut into nine squares.

S’Mores Cannabis Brownies

These are perfect for a summer night around the campfire.

What you’ll need:

¼ cup cannabutter
¼ cup light vegetable oil
1 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup mini marshmallows
4 graham crackers
8 ounces of chopped milk chocolate

Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Grease your medium baking dish and set it aside. Whisk your eggs, vanilla, salt, baking powder, and sugar together. Add the flour, cocoa powder, melted cannabutter, and oil, and whisk it all until it’s well combined.

Pour the mixture into your baking dish and bake for 15 minutes. In the meantime, mix broken graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows in a bowl. Sprinkle the mix on the brownies and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes. Let them cool for about 10 minutes and cut them into squares.

Paleo Pot Brownies

These brownies are delicious as is (and secretly gluten-free!), but you can customize them to be vegan, as well.

What you need:

¼ cup creamy, unsweetened almond butter
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons cane sugar
1/3 cup raw honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
1 ½ tablespoons of melted cannabis coconut oil
1/8 cup melted coconut oil (not infused)
¾ cup unsweetened raw cacao powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
2 eggs (2 tablespoons of ground flax plus 6 tablespoons of water for vegan)
½ cup blanched almond flour
½ cup vegan chocolate chunks (optional)

Preheat your oven to 325° Fahrenheit and grease an 8 by 8 baking dish. Whisk the almond butter, sugar, honey, and both types of oil together. Add the cacao powder a little at a time, then the vanilla, salt, and eggs (or flax eggs). Fold in the almond flour with a spatula until you have a thick batter (it will resemble wet dough). Fold in the chocolate chunks if you’re using them and put the batter into the baking dish. Bake the brownies for 28 to 36 minutes, and let the pan cool for a couple of hours before slicing into 12 to 14 squares.

Weed brownies might be iconic, but that doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself. Feel free to experiment with your favorite brownie (or blondie!) recipes. You might just find your new favorite edible!
